Car care after PPF or ceramic coating

Last reviewed: · 2 min read

Good protection lasts longer with a little care, and the first days after installation matter most.

After PPF installation

The first days:

  • Don't wash the car for about a week, so the adhesive can dry and the edges can settle.
  • You may notice small water bubbles or haze under the film. This is usually normal and disappears within days as the moisture evaporates. If it remains after the period the shop gave you, go back to them.
  • Don't try to lift or press any edge.

In the long run:

  • Wash with a pH-neutral shampoo and a soft microfibre towel.
  • If you use a pressure washer, keep the nozzle at a reasonable distance and never aim it at the film's edges, as it can lift them.
  • Don't use abrasive products or strong polishing compounds on the film.

After ceramic coating

The first weeks:

  • The coating needs time to cure fully, which can take one to three weeks depending on the product and the weather.
  • Don't wash the car with soap for at least the first week.
  • If bird droppings or dirt land on it, remove them gently with water and a soft towel.

In the long run:

  • Use a pH-neutral, wax-free shampoo. Strong cleaners weaken the water-repelling effect.
  • Don't wash in direct sun or on a hot surface: water dries quickly and leaves spots.
  • Dry the car with a clean microfibre towel to avoid water spots, which show more with hard water.
  • Some warranties require periodic maintenance at the shop. Find out about this condition from the start.

Tips for Saudi conditions (both)

  • Bird droppings: remove them the same day. Heat speeds up the damage.
  • Dust: don't wipe dry dust off with a towel, as it causes fine scratches. Rinse it off with water first.
  • Shaded parking extends the life of any protection.

When to go back to the shop

  • A film edge lifting or peeling.
  • Yellowing or stains that don't wash off.
  • Bubbles that remain after the stated period.

Keep the installation invoice and the warranty card: you will need them for any claim.
